Winemaker John Davey handcrafts Shingleback wines from vine to bottle selecting parcels of grapes from his family's finest estate-grown grapes for each vintage.
He describes himself as a "minimalist winemaker" who seeks to capture the true character of the McLaren Vale by avoiding excessive manipulation and treating wines gently from fermentation through aging.
Located at the entrance to the McLaren Vale wine region is the Shingleback Cellar Door.
Housed in the original barn of Aldersey Farm (circa 1890) is Shingleback's tasting area.
Sample the entire range of Shingleback, Red Knot and The Gate wines in the cosy ambience of the open fire, iron roof and the original exposed beams, and in the summer under the cool shade of the verandah.
Also displayed and available for purchase, are paintings by local artists and regional produce.
If you can't make it a Perfect Start to your regional experience, ensure you have an Outstanding Finish on your way out of town.
